We are "Millennials": Making Sense of the Millennium

The video above rounds out our exploration of this new millenium by looking at what separates our generation from past generation. After watching, let's use this final opportunity to reflect on both the presentations that you've heard over the last several days and on our course as a whole. What issues most define the future of the United States in the Millenium? Are we still the America of 1776 that we talked about when the Framers constructed the Constitution? What has changed-for or worse? This is a large task, but remember when we do this kind of reflection don't feel like you need to say it ALL. Begin a conversation....

The issues that define the U.S is the finical problems that we are currently facing, as well as environmental, and the rights for the people. We see as the years pass by, America still faces the problem of the rights for the people; life, liberty, and property. As the election of 2000, people believed that their rights were being taking away when people (Africans) weren't allowed to vote. As well as terrorism issue. Terrorism took place because people believed that their rights weren't being fulfilled. So they made their voices heard. Many issues revolve around Americans not having their natural rights fully. I think America did change, some for worse, and some for best. Finically we worsened because now America is still in recession, though we learned from the Great Depression. But also was for the best, since now America is still figuring out a way to function with every race, though there are still problems within each race.

I agree with April, about America facing the problem of rights for the people. There are also a lot of environmental issues especially revolving around oil. America is really dependent on oil these days unlike back then before electricity. Oil is mainly used for transportation and electricity, and there isn't a large supply in America, which caused many problems like the Desert Storm as Breanne mentioned during the presentation. Now more and more places are turning to natural gas instead of oil because there is only a limited supply and we are not using it sustainably whether it is now or back then. I don't believe we are still the same America from 1776 because in a way things seem better then than now with the ways we are using things and how America is financially.

The issues most that define the future of the United States in the Millennium are within the states and the rights of the citizens. I agree with what Pauline said about the environmental problems the US might face such as fracking and pollution that would destroy or planet. I believe that we still the America of 1776 that we talked about when the Framers constructed the Constitution but improved and more assured on who we are and what we stand for. During the year 1776 America was new and though the principals stood strong ans bold the pride and the beliefs that America would stand are not as strong as it is now. I think most of the changes were for the better such as racism and slavery (the ending of course) well most of it. But some changes such as the environmental policies could be better. So I believe everything/most things over time change and develop to become a better place.

I agree with April that the U.S is facing huge money issues as well as basically the way we try to solve problems presented to us. The way Regan dealt with the money issues didnt work at all, it made it alot worst in fact. However faced with more money issues the U.S is rumored to be going back to old ways that didnt even work to benning with. I think that the I.S did change from the past,We became very money hungry tied with a higher standard of living the U.S almost seems to have a jumbled sense of whats important and what isn't, Which is really hurting us. Even though i agree with Ketie as she says that things s over time change and develop to become a better place, hopefully it just won't take much longer.
