The Cold War Begins (Honors)

Which development caused the greatest change in American society in the immediate postwar years: increased affluence, the migration to the suburbs, the entry of women into the workforce or the "baby boom?"

I believe that the increased affluence was the one change that had the most effect on the first couple years after the second World War because without the push to start working again that the War had brought to the American people, i think we would have stayed in debt for a longer amount of time. The economic changes that WWII brought our country benefited us drastically.
But if the question would have been about what one would have the longest affect till today I would say the Baby Boom because this Baby Boom that occurred has crippled our Social Security System because with so many people from that generation they are wiping out our financial standings. Our future social security checks may not be funded when it comes time for us to retire because of the Baby Boom.

I believe the entry of women in the workplace ha the biggest impact because this helped the economy a little. People were able to work and could support their families. I believe if this didn't happen, the states would still have been in the great depression and owing debt. However this was a benefit and also a disadvantage

I believe that the entry of women into the workforce had the most effect on American society in the immediate postwar years. At the time, women mainly stayed to domestic labor (household) and very few had professions outside the home and those who did were even a greater minority in the workforce. The increase of women in the general working population can be seen as a turning point in American Society, starting with the increasing rate of industrialization and maintained throughout the Great War. With Americas' involvement in WWII and the large numbers of men in the armed forces the need to keep domestic industry and the requirements of supplying the war fell once more on the shoulders of women. This war effort on the home front allowed women to come to understand that they had just as much potential as men and workers to perform the daily duties in the working field as well. With the war coming to a halt, the growing sense of Independence and respect for women had been boosted. This in turn raised the awareness of the greatest problem in American society thus far and that was the "inequality" between men and women, not only in the workplace but in wider social issues and fueled the battle between women and American society as a whole, in part, the shifting of attitudes that followed the Second World War and can be seen even today.

The development of women entering the workforce caused the greatest change in American society in the immediate post war years because whitelist women always formed part of the workforce very few had independent careers outside of the home or were involved in domestic labor. The war effort on home front allowed women to realize that they to had the skills to perform the job as any other worker before. After the war female independence grew rapidly which lead to a desire to remain gainfully employed in the workforce. This in turn raised awareness about the inequality between men and women not only in the workforce but in social issues as well.

I agree that the entry of women in the workforce has drastically changed the balance of society.Usually very few women have independent jobs like Jade said whitelist women always had independent jobs tho .After the war, women's equality with men was being questioned because women could now do the same jobs as men .Women are actually known to do the job better also.
