FDR and WWII (Honors)
America interprets Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor as an attack. Would the United States have entered World War II even if the Japanese had not attacked Pearl Harbor?
I doubt that they would have entered because they were once again trying to be neutral. America has to be hurt in order for it to get in something it doesn't want to be involved in. Just like in the previous war, American ships were being destroyed. That's the reason why they entered that war. They didn't even want to go to war, so if America was left alone they would have stayed out of World War II.
If pearl harbor had not been attacked by the Japanese I highly doubt that the United States would have entered World War II. Because of the strong peace movement only an overt act of aggression against the US could get the US in the war not even the president Franklin Delano Roosevelt could. FDR wanted to get the US into conflict as early as possible that's why many people continue to speculate that FDR knew the attack was coming but did nothing to prevent it besides ensure the carriers we're at sea. In agreement to what Tina said above "America has to be hurt in order for it to get in something it doesnt want to be involved in" therefore America would not have entered World War II if it wasnt for tha attack on pearl harbor.
I feel as though the United States would not have entered the war with Japan and became part of World War II without the attack on Pearl Harbor. The United States had no reason to participate in the war and once again they were going to stay neutral if they had not been attacked. The attack on US soil on December 7th of 1941, was the main reason that the US got involved at all in the second world war. Without this happening and causing such a traumatic loss of both innocent men, ships, ammunition the US would have stayed neutral.
Just like the others have stated, I do not believe that the United States would have joined the war if Pearl Harbor was not attacked. If America really wanted to be in the war they would've joined a long time ago. For example, when Britain was fighting Germany. Americans were filled with sorrow, but they did not join the war. Instead, America stayed neutral ,but supplied weapons for Britain. America had numerous of opportunities to join the war, but they did not. America only joined because something of theirs was destroyed and American lives were taken.
I agree with my peers to an extent however, even if Japan hadn't attacked Pearl Harbor the war was inevitable.Could Japan have taken Asia without wrestling the Philippines from the US? Could they have taken Hong Kong and Singapore without the Americans stepping in to back up the Brits? While the US was blockading Japan, it was denying scrap metal and oil shipments to it in response to Japan's aggression. Instead of entering the war at the end of 1941angry and ready for revenge, the U.S would have entered in 1942-43 looking to back up their allies like they did in World War One.
I believed that if the japanese didnt attack America, we wouldnt have join the war.To think about it before the war, America was supplying areas that were fighting Germany, Japan, and Italy. In addition, two days before the attack of pearl harbor, america received a 14th paged, however the letter wasnt read until one hour before the stack. In addition, the letter but we ignored the letter because we wanted peace; we had no intention of joining the war. As a result of the attack america quickly joined the war, they simply had to choice but to.
If Japan wouldn't have attacked Pearl Harbor the United States wouldn't have entered World War II. The US was initially taking a neutral stance during the war in order to not get involved in foreign affairs and to stay isolated. They also weren't in a proper state to enter any war because they were having financial difficulties. Without large sums of money and resources it wouldn't be practical for any nation to enter a war.
