What Gives Us Pause...

World History 9/1 & 9/2. I love the response I'm already see come back over Edmodo. Monday in class, we'll start to build our community. World History is about connecting to the motivations of human beings. It's also a space for us to begin to piece together what has shaped interactions between individuals, countries, and cultures around the World. If we can do that...not only do we become fuller more empathetic human being, but the emotionality of our MUSIC improves as well.

Continue the Edmodo share here on our class blog in the comments section...

SHARE & REACT What is one issue impacting the world beyond Philadelphia that gives you pause? Find and article or image that you can share with others in class. I've got mine ready. The http://www.nytimes.com/ or http://america.aljazeera.com/ are excellent places to start wandering around for an issue that speaks to your heart and mind.

I chose this article because many nations in Europe are in a serious crisis involving debt. Despite the condition of these countries, all of us are well aware of the negative outcomes debt can cause. Many people have to fend for their lives. It is truly horrible.

I chose this article because of the size of this massive pile up. This made me "pause" and realize that this had to have effected many families that took part in this 100 car pile-up. I wish all of the people that got hurt the best and I hope that they get back to their families soon.

Here is an article on China's One Child Policy and how it affects families who have lost their children. I chose this article because I feel that it is a problem. The gender majority is guys since families in China mostly hope for guys. This policy especially crushes families who have lost their children, leaving them with nothing else to live for.

The first two articles were my original ones but after the discussion in class it made me think about how people still would rather be average, than have people be themselves.

i chose this article beacause it shows how some of the health care promises made have not come through for every person, and any of our families could end up in the same situation.

The world issue that concerns me is the deficiency in equality, justice, and jobs for people. The march om Washington was not a commemoration;sadly it was a continuation from 50 yrs ago.

I chose this article because I think that today's people think that criticism can go as far as to hurting a family member's feelings because of a belief. If you don't like it, then don't talk about it. http://mobile.nytimes.com/blogs/thecaucus/2013/08/31/mary-cheney-criticizes-her-sister-on-same-sex-marriage/

I chose this article becasue I noticed that with the polution of our oceans and beaches, marine animals such as belugas or even dolphins can become extremely ill, and die. It is noticed that some marine animals have already become ill from polution or toxic wastes. Think about what will happen in some years? this is a major issue for marine life animals.

Mark Hoochuk,

I think this issue is very important. It effects are everyday lives and it is hardly ever mentioned on television. Many aren't aware of how the disaster in 2011 is still affecting us today.
