The Greeks and Hero Worship.

What is a Hero? After watching the story of Perseus as told in  The Clash of the Titans, would you call him a hero?

In my opinion, a hero is someone who goes against everything and everyone else in order to do the right thing. After watching the Clash of the Titans videos, I would definitely call Perseus a hero. My reasoning behind this is based on when he saved the maiden from the monster by turning the monster into stone. A normal person at the time probably wouldn’t have intervened, but Perseus made it his responsibility to save her life. If he hadn’t have gotten involved, she most likely would’ve died.

I agree with what Sofia said on what a hero is. That person will stop at nothing to do the right thing, no matter what rules he/she breaks. A hero will stop at nothing to do what is right.
After seeing the Clash of the Titans Videos' I would call Perseus a definite hero. When he had to get the head of Medusa as a gift, he saved his friend from the three witches with one eye. Also, he saved the woman that he has madly in love with by using the head of medusa to turn the gigantic monster that was about to eat her into stone. I can bet you money that using the head of Medusa for your own needs/helping is strictly not allowed, but Perseus didn't care. He used the head of Medusa anyway because it was the right thing to do, and that is what makes him a hero.

I believe a hero is a person who risks his/her own life to save the life of another person. Perseus is most definitely a hero in my eyes. He is a hero because he risked his own life to go on a dangerous journey to save the maiden from the monster. Perseus saved her by using the head that had the ability to turn anything into stone. The monster was then turned to stone by Perseus and the head, which led to the maiden becoming free. This is why I believe Perseus is a hero.

A hero to me is someone who risks his/her own life for anyone in danger. The person is given up his/her life so that another person or people can live. He/she is not selfish or uncaring. Perceus is a hero because his own life on the line and went through so many deadly challenges to save the maiden from the monster; He slayed Medusa so he could obtain her head to turn the monster into stone. Putting his own life in danger the so that he could defeat the Kraken and save the maiden’s life makes him a true hero.

To me a hero could be anyone, but the quality that I think defines a hero is the choices they make. Also, I believe a hero would do anything to do what's right. In the movie "Clash of the Titans", Perseus journeyed far distances to keep his agreement to the king to save Argos, along with the whole world. Now Perseus could of just journeyed and hid from the monstrous beast(The Kraken), but instead he went out for the head of Medusa to save the world and keep his promise, and that is what a hero does. Now throughout ancient Greece there are many other heroes like Perseus, such as Theseus and Achilles whos stories I will not explain, but these heroes give us moral to learn from, and that is that we have to do whatever it takes to what is right, no matter the cost or risks you have to take.

Sorry for the typos, for example I meant "morals", instead of moral, but a living hero that comes to mind is my brother Brandon because he is a really good role-model, he gives me good advice and he supports me in everything that I do.

I agree with Sofia. I don’t think you have to wear a cape or have super strength to be a hero. I think a hero is being the one who will do whatever to it takes to do what he/she believes is right. Whether or not it pleases everyone or whether or not it means doing something everyone else is afraid to do. I think Perseus is a hero. He risked his own life to save the life of the woman he loved by using Medusa’s head to kill the monster. In my own life, I think my personal hero is my mom because she is strong and will sacrifice anything for me and I know I can always count on my mom.

A hero is someone who saves a life and fights against wrongdoers. After watching the two clips I believe Perseus is a hero because he went on a life risking journey to save a woman. He even saved other lives along the way. Examples of heroes today would be firefighters and policemen because every single day they risk their lives to save ours and to protect us.

When I hear the word hero, the first thought that comes to my mind is a warm-hearted person who will face any obstacle he/she has to in order to do what is right and just. In my opinion, Perseus was a true hero. I agree 100% with Anthony and Sofia's examples of what Perseus had done and the obstacles he had faced for us to make this statement. One major event that made me realize that he was a hero was when he threw the witch's eye on the ground instead of letting it fall over the cliff. This had showed me that even though Perseus could have let the eye fall because of what the witches had fought him, he gave it back because he was good-hearted and caring person. He understood how important the eye was to the witches. He had also gone out of his way to save a village and maiden from the monster who would have destroyed all of the civiians. The two heroes in my life are my parents. I am not saying this because I feel "they love me" or "they are nice to me" but I say this because like Perseus, I know they will put their lives on the line to make sure I am safe and protected. I also feel the love they express and I know I can always count on them to be there for me every step of the way. So yes, I believe Perseus (and my parents) are all heroes because of the kind of people they are!

A hero is a person who risks their life to save someone else. Perseus I would say he's a hero because he risk his life to save the woman and chopped off the snake lady head and used it to turn the scary monster into stone. That's what made him a hero to the people of Greece.

I think a hero is someone who saves someone's life. A hero can be anyone. Perseus is a hero because he risked his own life to save someone else.

A hero to me is someone who has courage. After watching the two videos, I would say Perseus is a hero. He risked his own life for everyone. Putting yourself in danger is very serious. The lady hanging off the edge was lucky that Perseus was there to not only to rescue her but was there to fight off the creature trying to harm everyone. He did what he was told and I am sure everyone would like someone like Perseus to be in your lives.

I think a hero is someone who will risk his or her life to save another’s at any cost. Yes I would call Perseus a hero two times in these videos. The first act of heroism is when he makes the three witches let his friend go back for the eye. Perseus could have just asked the witches where medusa was and just went to her, but the first thing he did was asked for his friend. The second act of heroism is when Perseus saves the girl that is going to be sacrificed to the giant monster. Most people would have just kept going on and finished their quest but Perseus did the heroic thing and saved the girl.

I believe that a hero is someone who always does the right thing and puts the lives of others before himself. I believe that Perseus is a hero because he saved the maiden from the monster by using the head of Medusa to turn the monster into stone. Also, I think that he is a hero because he still managed to keep his promise and bring back the head of Medusa as a gift.

I believe a hero is a person who looks after another persons needs before their own. Always doing the right thing no matter the consequences. After watching those two clips I would also say that a true hero is willing to risk their life to save another. Perseus was doing whatever he could to keep his word and in the end saved the girl.

A hero is a person who would do anything to risk his/her own life for the people that he/she loved or cared for. After watching the two videos of Clash of the Titans, my opinion is that Perseus is not a hero because he only saved one life. He was ordered to kill Medusa , but in mythology, Perseus killed Medusa for no reason. I think a hero would a Nurse, Fireman, Officer, Teacher, or people who would help the sick and poor.

I think a hero is someone who would do the right thing when confronted with any obstacles and situation. someone who would risk it all for for else. after watching the videos I would define Perseus as a hero. He slayed a evil creature saved a damsel in distress. He is your typical hero in almost any story

To me, a hero is someone who will do absolutely anything for the right thing. They will do dangerous acts, even put their life on the line just to do something for good. Along with others have said, you do not have to be a superhero who flies and has super strength. You can be an average person doing the right thing just to be a superhero. An example is a firefighter. They go straight into a burning down house just to save another life, animal, ect. They risk their own lives for another, and to me doing such a courageous act makes you a hero in my book. After looking at the two videos, i can defiantly say that Perseus is a hero. He did what many others would never do, he did what many others couldn't do. So all in all, this is (to me) what it takes to be a hero.

I think a hero is someone who risks their own life for others. in my eyes, perseus was definitely a hero. throughout persus's journey he showed great courage and lived up to the honor of his family. there were two specific times when perseus was very heroic. the first time was when perseus helped save one of his men who journeyed with him when they were being attacked by those vretures. the other time was when the woman he fell in love with was bout to be eaten alive by a gigantic monster. perseus risked his own life being attacked by othrs t save her by using medusa's head to turn the monster into stone.

I believe a hero is someone who is dedicated and would sacrifice his/herself for the sake of others and for the sake of good. A good example of a hero would be someone who is brave. Someone who would also be willing to fight against his/her enemy and evil. In the videos that were shown, Perseus was battling against the bad creatures and in the end, he saved many people from dying because of his braveness. Persues would be a hero to those people for saving their lives. Examples of heroes today would be doctors and firefighters

In my opinion, a hero is someone who risks their life for other people in the name of justice so I completely agree with Jada.I say Perseus was a hero because he was definitely a corageous person and he represented his family well and he brave during his journey to kill Medusa and he wasn't afraid to put an end to the monster that she was. That's why I believe that Perseus is a hero.

I think a hero is someone who puts themselves before others, they are someone you can look up to for something they did that is great. Sometimes they save lives. I believe Perseus was a hero because he risked his life by killing Medusa and cutting off her head. Then he saved the maiden with Medusa's head by killing the Sea Dragon and then married the maiden. I think this makes Perseus a hero because he did the right thing by putting the maiden's life before his own.

To me, a hero is anyone who has the courage to put others before themselves. Like Nina said, heroes don't need to have capes on their backs. It may be something major or something minor, heroes are always there. A hero today, might be someone like your mom or dad. Your mom/dad might do whatever they can to make a first priority. After watching the videos, I do think that Perseus was a hero. He risked his life to save another person. He had more than enough courage.

I believe that a hero helps others no matter what they have to do. No matter how much it costs themselves. In an episode of Project Runway this season, there was an episode where each designer had to make an outfit for their model/fan. The competitors used a lot of their fabric budget (for the season) to get fabric for their fans. In the videos, Perseus was a hero. As Sofia said, he saved the maiden from the monster by turning it into stone. Just defeating a monster is heroic in my opinion, but some people today don't like to get involved with conflicts that other people are dealing with. Also,he went to search for Medusa and although (as Anthony said), he broke the rules, he broke them to help other people.

Unknown said...

I believe a hero is someone that will always go out of their way to help other people and do whatever it takes to help the weak. I agree with Sofia, Grillo, and Taylor. Perseus was defiantly a hero in my eyes. He fought and never gave up no matter what challenges he faced. He saved the princess and went out of his way to kill Medusa just to save her from the Cracken. I believe he is considered a hero because of his heroic act and by the way he fought and never gave up on anything.

A Hero is someone who in the midst of adversity and the endangerment of their own life;does what ever it takes to save someone or something that's greater and beyond them self.I think Perseus is a hero because he faced a lot of obstacles and difficulties in order to save humanity. He went on a dangerous journey to get the head of Medusa;who's a monstrous woman that can turn you in to stone with her looks and he managed to behead her, then get to the maiden and save her life. That's what makes you a hero when you risk your life to save someone else's.

a hero is someone that believes in The right things and that overcomes The wrong no matter what cost. I think that perseus is a her because of all They obstacles and hardships tyat he faced and how he over came them for The greater good.

A hero is a person who makes an improvement or change in a positive way via courageous methods. A hero makes a positive change whether in a small community or through a large amount of people. Heroes push through insecurities, fears, and obstacles to make that change. Perseus was definitely a hero; he went out of his way to save the princess and the people of Greece even though he wasn't too thrilled to do it.
People like firefighters and police men and women are example of everyday heroes in our community. Lady Gaga is an international hero, inspiring people to be themselves. She pushes boundaries to show her fans that it's more than exceptional to be who you want to be, even if it won't make her too popular in the media eye. All these qualities, like bravery, are what it takes to be a hero.

I think hero is someone help in saving people or a society from bad people, villains, or natural disasters. They always do the right things and helpful or helping people who need it.After watching"Clash of the Titans"i would call him a hero because he saved his friends from the Graeae and he saved the princess's life.

I think that a hero is someone that risks their life to fight for someone else. After seeing the video, I think that Perseus is a hero. I think that he is a hero because he saved a woman that was in danger. He used Medusa’s head to turn the monster into stone before the creature could harm the woman. When the monster appeared, everyone backed up and stood in shock whereas Perseus helped the woman. This is why I think that Perseus is a true hero.

A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. After watching the videos, I thought that Perseus was a hero because he had to go through extremely tough and challenging obstacles to save many innocent people. He had to search for the head of a monstrous female creature named Medusa. Once you stare at her face, you will become a stone figure. He managed to cut her head off and return home to save the maiden. What's make you a hero is that you risk your life for someone else's life. An example is when the military goes to war against either another country, terrorists or revolutionaries.

Unknown said...

I think anyone has the power to be a hero, no matter how big or small of a deed you did. A hero knows what's right from wrong. From my perspective after the video, Perseus was definitely in my eyes a true hero. He put others life above his. I agree with Tiana. He did risk his whole life to save her. He never backed down. He was determined to end medusa and risk a life of his own by saving the maiden. He was also very smart, using medusas head to kill the monster. Perseus is a true hero.

A hero to me is someone who risks there life for others. They are brave human beings and they save lives. To me Perseus is a hero because he sacrificed his own life for everyone else's life in Greece , and that took a lot of bravery. In the time of ancient Greeks it was very dangerous task they had to accomplish in order to save lives. It was not as easy as it is today.

I think a hero is someone who does the "right" thing even if that means there life is on the line. A hero does what's right because he/she believes in what there doing. i think perseus was a hero because he knew that his life was in danger but he risked everything he had. That's what a hero does.

I think a hero can be anyone. Following what Jeremy said, I believe that a hero can be anyone that does the right thing, and has the right mindset to advance into darkness and be able to defeat it. After seeing the video I would call Perseus a hero, he himself had the right mindset and put himself out into the fight off evil, and that is what makes him a hero in my opinion. Also I would say a hero can be a role model like Jeremy said his brother is to him, as long as they're a good role model and do the right things, and of course I see a hero as someone who will save lives.

Unknown said...

To me a hero is someone who saves peoples live. After watching the video I would consider Perseus a hero. This is because when he saved the woman he was in love with from the monster and turned him into stone. This kind of reminded me of the picture that was shown in class of the monster eating the woman with no head. My top example of a hero is a fire fighter. This is because they literally risk their lives to save other people. They must be really brave.

Unknown said...

I think a hero is someone who not only risks their life for someone else but puts someone else's troubles before their own. In my opinion Perseus is a hero. I think this because he put the women's life before his own by using Medusa's head to turn the monster to stone. As I was thinking of heroes in real life I thought of my parents and firefighters. My parents because they worry about my health more than themselves; firefighters because they put themselves into risk of death everyday saving other people.

To me, I believe that a hero is someone who will go out of their way to do the right thing. They would risk their own life to protect others. They would keep their word no matter what the risk is. After watching the Clash of the Titans videos, I would definitely consider Perseus a hero. Not only did he save Andromeda, the woman he loved, but took on the entire journey to keep his word with the king. That is why I would consider Perseus a hero.

He showed leadership and power. By: Gloria P.Harley

In my opinion, a hero is someone who will do everything in his power to do the right thing. The right thing always depends on what side you are on. Yes, perseus would be seen as the hero by Andromeda or the Gods but what about the villains? To them, Perseus is a murderer. Do you really think they could consider him a hero in their eyes. Honestly, the hero is just a matter of perspective. The good side Perseus is a hero and on the dark side he is the villian. Im going to side with the dark side to give it the benefit of the doubt and because they have cookies, you should join too. My example of a hero would be an air force member, they fly and they fight at the same time. That is double the risk but they do it because it is what they believe.

I believe that a herp is someone who goes against anything to justify what they think is wrong. I believe Perseus is a hero because he went on a life risking journey to save a woman. He even saved other lives along the way.

I believe that a hero is someone who has done a very helpful and unforgettable deed, a person that many people may look up to, and someone who has been highly honored. Perseus has met all the standards of being a hero. He ventured far to fulfill a promise given to him despite the dangers. Perseus was brave enough to tame the Pegasus, gather the unbreakable sword and fortified shield, face the dreadful witches, and defeat the horrible monster, Medusa. Most of all, he saved all of his town and people from the gigantic beast. For Perseus's brave and heroic actions, he was truly praised and definitely considered a hero. A hero however doesn't necessarily sacrifice their life. Heroes from our time could be people such as Marther Luther King. The heroic deed all of us remember him by is his well known "I Have a Dream" speech and his contributions toward the Civil Rights Movement. Anyone can be a hero. Whether it is a simple deed, or a outrageous one. Anyone can be a hero at the end of the day.

Perseus fought anything dangerous to save just one person. You don't have to be amazing to be a hero. Caring and fighting for one person. That makes you a hero to that person

In my opinion the terrible transformation was when the definition of a slave became the definition of a black. I also agree with Elizabeth the terrible transformation was the start of racialization . in the rise of slavery the servants were transported to the Americas. after they completed serving their masters they received food and were given land to live. this lasted until the 1660s when the service began to rebel . eventually Africans became the pinpoint for slavery by the English. people began to enjoy the idea of slavery because it meant to have persistent servitude .I found it very interesting how in the beginning the majority of servants were not just black. It was poor people sometimes even whites. I also agree with Nicolette that Anthony Johnsons story was very interesting. he escaped slavery in Americas. he was an African slave who in 1640 got to own his own land . He I was also able to marry and had many children. unlike many other African servants he made many prodigious triumphs.
