This morning the New York Times reported, "After five years of fractious political combat, President Obama declared independence from Congress on Tuesday as he vowed to tackle economic disparity with a series of limited initiatives on jobs, wages and retirement that he will enact without legislative approval" (New York Times, 1/29/2014).
The State of the Union (SOTU) is the address presented by thePresident of the United States to a joint session of the United States Congress, typically delivered annually. The address not only reports on the condition of the nation but also allows presidents to outline their legislative agenda (for which they need the cooperation ofCongress) and their national priorities.[1] The address fulfills rules in Article II, Section 3 of theU.S. Constitution, requiring the President to periodically give Congress information on the "State of the Union" and recommend any measures that he believes is necessary and expedient. The SOTU can also be used as a moment to inspire intense national pride. After watching the SOTU 2014, let's use this space to reflect on what we have to be proud of or exited about as a nation. What do we have to look forward to? What proposals sound most important to you? Our country needs plenty of work. Based on last night's speech, where do we begin.

Obama focused on continuity and prosperity in his speach. He offered new economic themes. The president wants to strengthen the middle class. He is not wasiting time, he is going to get to work quickly. This is Americas year and we need to all work together to do this! We can begin by helping the economy.
President Barack Obama- Education
Obama says:
Obama believes that every child should get the full amount of education.
Today, more young people are earning more college degrees than ever before.
One of the best investments we can make is to provide a child with the full amount of early education.
In my opinion, I totally support this statement. I think that education is the most important key to the success of life.
The amount of early education will affect the education that follows. For example, Critical Thinking, Data and Analysis, and so many other skills that are essential to reach your full potential.
In conclusion, these are the highlights that stood out to me.
In president Obama's speech he talks about the economical troubles in America and what he's going to do to improve them. He also discusses the issues America has had in the past years and how they are being resolved now. President Obama wants us citizens to work together to get things done so we can accomplish more. He talked about how to prevent war and the people who are fighting in the war.
He acknowledged a solider that was recently fighting in the war and how brave he is for continuing to stand on both two feet after being injured in the war. Obama makes some valid points about how we as citizens need to come together as a country. He's not wasting any time ;he has everything figured out.
In his speech he states what has already being accomplished in America that has not been accomplished over the past 20 years. He states that a doctor gave a child a cure to their asthma and charged that child's mother with what she could afford. Things are coming together quite well in America and could come a lot stronger if we work together. Obama also said that more job opportunities should be open to people who are unemployed so they can support their families. Obama's speech was really in powering ,and encouraged me to work with the citizens of my country from now on ;to make my country a better place.
Watching the SOTU 14 Speech, we have heard that the unemployment rate is the loosest it has ever been in these past 4-5 years. Obama states that China is not the number one place to invest, America is. This means we as a country are taking action. It was excellent to hear that adults are advancing onto college and receiving college degrees. Obama tells us that 150 business and industries helped improve these adults to have the opportunity to go to college. As much as we want to believe that budgets are going to be cut, and more opportunities for jobs are going to open we all need to make the effort in helping America succeed and be the best it can be.
As said by President Obama, America is going on economic. This is the year of progress and prosperity in economic. He is said to take action, independently (Without congress). He had taken a step to equal right for women on wages. Women had long got paid less, and for this year that will change. Yes, He will fight, if you wouldn't participate, he will fight. He wants to work towards all working middle classes. Something that he had left out for so long, that really caught my attention was education. He is taking a step towards high quality education. He had already taken action in terms of proving himself. The only thing we need to invest in the most is education. Children across the country is getting unequaled education, hopefully that'll change. Working with mayors and governors, and communities to achieve High-class Education. Colleges and businesses are already taken action to reduce the inequality upon higher education. College-debts are being reduced, from the helps of workers. I think we can work towards a new beginning, only if we put our heads to the game
President Obama wants to have free pre-school for all low-income four year olds. This has to exist because there are families out there who can't afford a private pre-school, which is like a saving grace. The parents would feel great because they could support their children even with the most basic income. The schools in Waiting For Superman are schools for people who didn't use to have a choice and it's great.
President Obama wants all high schools to have high-speed Internet in five years. This would be great for kids who don't have Internet at home.
He also wants high schools to get better at helping people find jobs. I think that's great. One thing that high schools have to do is influence kids' careers. Kids get scared when high school is over because college is so expensive. They don't know what they want. What he's trying to do is something that takes a lot of guts. I think he should keep going with this.
This video was very inspirational, and very effective. Obama's speech shows how much he's done, how much our nation's done, and how much will be done in the future. I felt like the focal points of his speech were education and economy and these are two of the most important things in society. Without education, we have nothing, and a bad economy will only lead to corruption. Obama isn't going to let that happen. He's telling the Congress the statistics of changes made in the past couple years. He emphasizes that we've made many progressions as a nation and tells us that we can continue to make more. Two important details in economy are affordability and jobs. Obama is doing as much as he possibly can to make necessary things more affordable. He is making insurance more affordable by allowing people to pay what they can without going bankrupt. He wants people to live life without worrying about how to pay certain bills that seem to skyrocket. He is going to create an efficient system that allows for everyone to be happy. He also plans on continuing to create more jobs. This will allow more people more opportunities to feed the people close to them. Jobs are essential no matter where you go, and a lack of jobs is what causes a bad economy. Job increase will also result in economical increase and that is why Obama has made it one of his responsibilities to help this situation however he needs to, to stop it as quickly as possible. By creating jobs, you stop people from making bad choices to get money and this will greatly affect countless lives. By enhancing school education, Obama will increase our odds of prosperity and success as the following generation takes over. Right now, everyone can't afford private school so sometimes they have to settle for schools that aren't as good. Obama plans on changing this sad truth. If he can't change the availability of private schools, he can make every public school around the country and good as it can be. His speech is effective because he isn't asking permission, he's saying what he's going to do to better our country. By making these changes, Obama is ensuring that our country will begin to rise both economically and educationally. I think that all citizens need to do their part to support this decision. If all the people in America work together, we can accomplish anything.
When Obama is giving this speech he is secure and confident. He sets the tone by starting to talk about economics. He talked about speeding up growth, straightening out the middle class and basically giving the middle class more opportunity.Obama mentioned the Americans struggling with the jobs they are left with, and he also talked about the Americans without any jobs. He wants to fix this up. He wants to do this as fast as possible. He also talked about raising the price of minimum wage. Which in my opinion is a great idea. Obama talked about wanting every child to have an education. I love how he said he is going to make some public schools more useful in learning, if he can't find a way to get people into private schools easier. I was also very shocked at the college degrees! I did not know so many business's are helping young adults fulfill their dreams.
In my opinion what I stated are the topics that seemed important to me. I feel that we as citizens should help as much as we can. What Obama has planned for us, we should trust him. He knows what is best with us. We can only get through tough times if we all work together and overcome it. This video was very inspirational. His words were well said, he knew what he was talking about.
President Obama's speech is very inspirational. He is very confident. At first, he is talking about how he want to help the middle class. He is planning to create more jobs. He is planning to raise the minimum wage for the majority of the citizens. Mr. Obama also want to push the idea of the retirement savings account so it is easier for people to save money through their employers. I think he is trying his best so things would become more affordable for the middle class and for the unemployment. He also talks about wanting every child to have an education for the future generations. He wants to make every public schools as good as it can be. He is trying to make our country a better place.

What Obama mostly focuses on in his speech is prosperity and continuity. He offered new economic ideas of strengthening the middle class instead of the upper class being so wealthy. The president want thing to get done very quickly because the more time we waste the harder it will be to accomplish our goal. Obama is trying his best to help our economy from crashing and getting people jobs, but he can’t do it alone he needs our help. These next few years if everyone binds together and helps not only each other but the economy this could be America’s year to take charge.
I don't like what Obamas doing. he's is picking up our constitution and hitting it with a bus. our country is based off of separation of power and if he steals all the power why on earth would that sound like a good thing! there are cheeks and balances. its about working together. a affective leader collaborates with all of his team members rather than avoiding conflict. while its challenging compromise is part of politics.
If everything that President Obama is saying in this video is true (and that's a big if), then we as Americans can't wait for these endless waves of occupation opportunities. The fact that every adult living in this country can have a chance to put food on their table is astonishing. But, what we don't realize is that people don't need jobs to put food on their table. Once a week or so, I go to the Save a Lot and see that 99% of the families/people there have Food Stamps (the other 1% being my family). And who pays for those meals? That's right, taxpayers. I think the only way that Americans can have jobs is to cut Welfare and Food Stamps. I say this because people who are on these plans, when these plans are gone, they will realize that there is no way to cheat their way out of buying the stuff they need and say, "Hey I need a job!" These are my thoughts on the speech and also what America needs to do to make this country a better (where people can rely on themselves to get what they need, not on other people and the government).
President Obama tells us that America is improving in schools and businesses. It is important for us to have more employments and also kids in school, for a better future in America. President Obama knows what he wants to do for a change. He value education and also employments in America. That is why he is trying to create more jobs for the Americans such as high-tech manufacturing jobs. He also talked about the social classes and how he wants to strengthen the middle class to give them more opportunities. He is aware of the issues that are happening in America especially about the reality of our economy and he talks about the different things he can do to make America better.
Watching Obama's we learn a lot about America's economics. While watching the State of the Union Speech we learn that America's employment rate is at it's all time lowest. Obama tells us to take our own independent action. The president states that it may not me all too wise to invest in China, and how I took it was as if America should be invested in. Obviously, this many people being out of work is a problem, which Obama is trying to fix. He is not sitting back on the situation, he is taking fast action and even raising the price of minimum wage workers. Obama speaks about every child getting an education. My parents have instilled in me no education, no future, so the fact he mention that really stood out to me. Obama is also trying to get 150 businesses to allow more adults to attend college which I think is great.
Throughout his current term in Presidency, Obama has had to battle with a disagreeing congress, forcing him to put a stop on taking action. Now, with the weight of an arguing and indecisive congress behind him, Obama can help offer new economic themes, and get our economy back to where it needs to be.
