The Age of Exploration changes the World...

The Age of Exploration ushers in the complicated interactions that we witness in the today's modern world. Join the discussion here and reflect on what you take away from this unit. I will only request that we limit our responses to one paragraph (or idea).  So be creative with the way that you use evidence to support assertions that you make.

What do you have to contribute to the conversation: "The Age of Exploration changes the World..." (Hint: Not only goods and technology [be specific if these are your take aways], but also consider the change in the way that human beings interact with one another or the shifts in what motivates interaction)

With the help of a few pioneers, the Age of Exploration helped inspire people to discover foreign lands. If it weren't for conquistadors such as Columbus and Cortes, most of us wouldn't be living in America right now. Also, if it weren't for the diseases our ancestors had that the conquistadors brought to their newly found lands, our immune systems probably wouldn't be as strong as they are now.

The Age of Exploration completely changed the world. The new world and the old world exchanged new goods and technology. Europeans brought pigs, cows, and horses to the Americas. Native Americans gave new goods like tomatoes, potatoes, and corn to Europe. It also led to a more diverse world. One civilization could have different types of races and different ideas. I think one of the most important things that came from the Age of Discovery was the idea that Europeans are superior to other people. Before this time, different people either liked or didn't like each other, but no one was looked at as inhuman. But the Age of Discovery made Europeans feel that they were better than the Native Americans who didn't worship the same gods or wear the same clothing.

The Age of Exploration changed the world alot. The Europeans besides them finding Asia, they happened to find something new to them which were new resources while they were bringing their own resources such as animals, grains and crops grown in Europe. Well there were already people living there and the Europeans destroyed almost all the Indian Tribes. Some of these tribes that lived in that time are still in existance, instead they are not at war with the United States however the US was fighting them since their formation. This conflict known as the American Indian Wars. These wars ended when the Apache tribes relocated. However, these Indians were treated like slaves to the Europeans. They had to work for the Europeans. Different people did not like each during this time of life because civilizations could have different types of culture and race. The Age of Discovery made the Europeans act as if they were better because the natives had no idea what religion was and that they had no items related to what Europeans had.

The Age of Exploration changed the World. It changed the world because without it, there would be no clash of cultures. Even though the clash of cultures led to violence, the world would not be as diverse as it is today without this time period. The world has many different cultures and languages because of this time period. This is one way in which the Age of exploration has changed the world.

The Age of Exploration brought many changes to the world. When Europeans met the Native Americans, they both saw new plants foods, and animals they have never seen before. This cause the exchange and interaction of cultures across the Atlantic. It also changed Native Americans way of living, like riding horses. Different music and instruments were also introduced, like the banjo from Africa. Europeans also were receiving more freedom like, going against their religion and dressing differently instead of the traditional way. Science also was beginning to dominate religion at this time. When explorers like Cortes and Columbus, came to America, they brought over diseases like small pox and syphilis. Slavery was brought into play when more crops and plants were beginning to be grown and there was no one to harvest them. Not all Europeans agreed with slavery, though.

The Age of Exploration changed the world a lot. The Age of Exploration inspired people to venture out and discover new territory. Without The Age of Exploration, we might not be living in America like we are today. It helped expand religion and many other types of cultures. The diseases our ancestors brought back to Europe helped us because if we discovered them today, we would die off quickly. The Age of Exploration helped us grow.

The Age of Exploration changed the world in so many ways. One way is how there are so many cultures that thrive in America. People often say America is the one place a person should go if they do not want to be judged by their race, religion, etc. Well how do you think this came about? It is because of the Age of Exploration. When explorers such as Columbus came to America, almost all of the Natives had died from either disease or battle but if it were not for those losses, our country would not flourish with diversity like it does today. Another way the Age of Exploration changed the world was by it opening doors and spreading light on new foods and animals. Animals such as horses had never lived in the Americas and plants such as corn and potatoes had never been grown in Europe. If it were not for the Age of Exploration, we as people would not have the privileges of being exposed to different cultures/foods/animals like we are today. Those are the ways the Age of Exploration changed the world.

The Age of exploration changes the world by creating an international community. People, animals, plants, and diseases spread out to new places. Now that they have found new lands, they can use it to grow certain things that can't due to the geographic. What can be found in Americas aren't present in Europe, and the present materials in Europe aren't known to Americas. The age of exploration changes this. As people start exchanging, Capitalism develops overtime, as who has the most agriculture power. History has it's clash of cultures, but culture diffusion led to the the international community being interdependent. Interdependent is a big part of modern day cultures. We need china to make our Apple computers, and Asia for rice and certain things, In America we can grow grapes. Shoes can be made in Pakistan, and be distributed to America.

The Age of Exploration changed the world with the “clash of cultures.” The clash of the indigenous people and the Europeans were set to be violent. The cultures of the indigenous people were not presentable to the Europeans. So the Europeans would want to take the land and produce their cultures. The Aztec Empire was taken over because the ruler Montezuma II did not know how important the Bible was and did not want to believe in it. The Europeans then took out the Aztec Empire and ruled the Aztecs until they came back and attacked. After, the Europeans struck back. The Europeans stayed in control and didn't have to worry about the Aztecs because of the diseases that killed millions of them. The “clash of cultures” basically is something that will always be in history. From the Aztecs, to slavery, to racism, and to gender. They are all interconnected with the thought of the “clash” that we all know as life.

The Age of Exploration changed the world in many ways. The Age of Exploration caused a larger population. There was a larger population because of the Columbian Exchange. The Columbian Exchange brought diseases, animals, plants, and the new people. One of the major diseases that traveled was small pox. The new animals and plants gave more food to the people. This attracted new people, which caused the larger population. The Age of Exploration created the modern system of capitalism as well. I believe it created the modern system of capitalism because of the money that came from the food.

The Age of Exploration changes the World…
When Europeans and Americans were joined together, many different animals and plants were discovered. European horses were bigger than American ones. Cows and pigs were introduced. Various new crops were found. This caused the trade throughout America. Trade that moved throughout the world. There were many new crops, so slavery was a main role in the age of discovery. Connections between the Americans and Europeans created new ways of life. Natives could move faster throughout land because of the larger horses. The banjo was a new instrument brought to America. Europeans could act more freely without the church and government watching over them all the time. They dressed, acted, and believed differently. Catholic women would wear Muslim dresses because they liked them. Exploration introduced freedom to the Americans and Europeans. Life was easier and more enjoyable. When the Aztecs were discovered, people started dying from disease. This disease was smallpox. It killed 90% of natives. All of these things were a result from The Age of Exploration. Without the Age of Exploration, America would not be what it is today.

The age of exploration changed everything about the world. The Europeans and Native Americans blended cultures. The Europeans brought live stock such as pigs, cows, and horses. They also brought deadly diseases which killed 90% of Native Americans. The Native Americas gave them crops such as potatoes, corn, and tomatoes. The Europeans and Native Americans also mixed sexually and had kids. (The Europeans were considered "superior" or more "important" then the Natives.) Without the Columbian exchange the world we know today we be completely different. New cultures developed and the old ones mixed together.

Unknown said...

In my opinion, the age of exploration completely changed the world. Of course, Europeans brought different crops (tomatoes and potatoes ect) and cattle (pigs and cow,) but there was much more then this. The age of exploration caused much diversity in religion and culture. As Nina said, a civilization can now have all different ideas and beliefs. This relates to the world today.

In Europe, it opened up new lands and great wealth. In the Americas, destruction and loss of land, people, cultures, and natural wealth occured. Slavery greatly increased. The age of exploration brought the Americas manys ups and downs. However, if everything happened differently, the world would not be the same as it is today.

The Age of Discovery changed the world in many ways. First, there is more food because the Native Americans had been there longer. More food caused population growth of the people from Europe but it also caused racism. Racism begins because when a Native American or Spanish have a child together they question who they are. Native American people were getting sick, also known as diseases and slavery began. Christopher Columbus and his followers started the sex trade, giving Native Americans more diseases that cause their population to decrease. New weapons killed the Native Americans and they couldn’t defend themselves. When Christopher Columbus came to America, he and his followers met with the Native Americans. They thought that theses people were savages and evil but they were not. The Europeans used new weapons to protect themselves from Native Americans, even though the Natives didn’t do anything wrong. Slavery began when Europeans needed help to grow crops or do chores for them, even though the owners were being lazy.

The Age of Exploration changed the world completely and without it, we probably wouldn't have the things we have, nor be living in America right now. The Age of Exploration brought new g=foods, resources, cultures, weapons, and ethnicities to the world. It also brought disease which killed almost the entire population of the Native Americans. The clash of cultures of the Europeans and the Native Americans brought more races and ethnicities of people to the Americas and introduced new crops and resources such as steel, gold, corn, tomatoes, and potatoes. Columbus, Pizarro, Cortes, and all of the other European explorers truly helped shape the modern world as it is today.

Unknown said...

The Age of Discovery changed the world in a bad way. Sure the land that is our home today was discovered. But the Europeans killed most of the natives in the land for resources. The Columbian Exchange was also set here. This began slave trade across the seas and brought more disease into the Americas such as smallpox, chickenpox, etc… It also leads to racism, slaves; foods that ruined the landscape and disease were brought here. The discovery of the Americas cause more problems than before.

Unknown said...

While I do agree with Sofia and Nina about their points, I think food and slavery also contributed to the world's change. Many different crops were discovered and traded around the world. Food helped the population double. For example in the Columbian Exchange crash course we watched, the Irish population doubled because of potatoes. An Irish worker would eat 10 pounds of potato each day. The idea of slavery during the age of exploration was the foundation of the beginning of it. Without it the world wouldn't be as prejudice as it is now.

The Age of Exploration changed the world into the twisted sick place we see today. I say this this because of the celebrities (role-models), natural disasters, and people getting farther and farther away from the Lord daily. It all started when the Europeans started to kill the Native Americans instead of helping them to find Christ. Now people might say that because of this, God is not the right way to go, but I don't think that God is the one behind all of this. Theologically, God wants nothing bad for based based on the fact that we are his children. Therefore, the one that is behind all of this id the thing that was behind all of the witchcraft we see today, Satan.

In the image that we discussed in class, Satan was sitting on the cannon, even though the "Christians" were holding up the cross and holy symbolic objects. Yet The Father of Lies tricked the Europeans into thinking that they were better than the Native Americans, instead of doing the mission for God (Spreading the Good News to the heathens).

The age of exploration changed the world. A lot of cultural diffusion, slave economy, slavery, contemporary food, disease, and population growth/decrease. When the Europeans came to the Americas, they discovered that the indigenous people there had gold, and certain crops such as sweet potatoes, pineapple, and vanilla. This caused for cultures to mix and create different foods that we eat today. Also when the Europeans came to the Americas this caused them to enslave the native Americans and start the slave economy. The Europeans not only enslaved them to hard labor but they sexually enslaved the indigenous people. Disease played an important part in the age of exploration, Europeans brought diseases such as smallpox;this caused the native american population to drop.Lastly this caused Spanish and indigenous people to create a new race know as the (mestizos). Europeans exploring the world caused disease, enslavement, and racism as we know it today but the age of exploration transformed life as we know it today.

The Age of Exploration changed the world so much. We wouldn't have the diversity of people and culture without the Age of Exploration. In result of the Age of Exploration, there is a clash of cultures, diverse foods, advanced weapons and new kinds of ethnicity. One example of a new ethnicity are mestizos, which are people that are born from a Native American and a European. But, not all that the Age of Exploration changed in the world were good. There were diseases that spread throughout America that were brought by explorers from Europe and Spain. Also, slavery existed during this time.
But, these changes make up the world that we have today.

The Age of Exploration changed the world... by bringing together peoples and ways of life that had never met each other before and as a result, creating a new way of life. The Europeans brought over their civilized, advanced, and way old traditions of farming, slaves, and town systems. The Native Americans' land gave the Europeans something new to bring back to the old world while leaving the Native Americans with diseases like syphillus and small pox. This clash of culture ushered the world we live in today and without this bringing together of people we would not be here.

The Age of Exploration changed the world in various ways. Weapons became a Big plus for the conquistadors. The Spanish had metal technology. It was developed in Europe. The Spanish were the first European settlers in theAmericas. As a result of their colonization, the Spanish greatly enriched their empire and left a mark on the cultures of North and South America. Another change was the population growth and decrease of Native Americans. Then the Columbian exchange came along and some aspects of it had a tragic impact on many Native Americans. Disease was just as much a part of the Columbian exchange as goods and foods. Many people died from these diseases. Slavery played a big part in the 1500s. The slavery that was developed in the Americans was based largely on race. Europeans viewed black people as naturally inferior. Because of this, slavery in the Americas was hereditary. Which led to racism. European over other.

The Age of Exploration brought on many positive factors that changed the World in many different ways thanks to the Europeans. Most importantly, Christopher Columbus lead to the discovery of America which launched the Age of Exploration and convinced many other explorers to venture out into the world. In a instant, the land available increased massively. With this new land, many crops were grown and animals were raised for food. With so much food grown, the Columbian Exchange developed and the population doubled. Much of the food we eat today were from the Columbian Exchange. With the discovery of America however, had some consequences. It lead to the fall of the Native Americans. As more land was conquered, more slaves were needed. As a result of enslaving Native Americans and African Americans, it lead to a whole idea of them being inferior to the Europeans which can be seen in modern racism. The Age of Exploration was important overall, for it developed the home in which we live in today: America.

The Age of Exploration changes the World by just the fact that many clashes happened, the clash of religion for instance was a big result trying to change the indigenous peoples of the Americas to become Catholics. But then also the clash of weaponry came and changed the whole game. But really the age of exploration was a turning point in time and was the Big Bang of Changes

Unknown said...

The Age of Exploration was rooted in new technologies and ideas growing out of the Renaissance, these included advances in cartography, navigation, and shipbuilding. The Age of Discovery can be seen as a bridge between the Middle Ages and the Modern era, along with its contemporary Renaissance movement, triggering the early modern period and the rise of European nation states. European overseas expansion led to the rise of colonial empires, with the contact between the Old and New Worlds producing the Columbian Exchange: a wide transfer of plants, animals, foods, human populations (including slaves), communicable diseases, and is one of the most significant global events concerning ecology, agriculture, and culture in history. European exploration allowed the global mapping of the world, resulting in a new world-view and distant civilizations acknowledging each other, reaching the most remote boundaries much later.

The age of exploration definetly changed the world. It changes it in two ways that I am going to mention. These are by technology and cultural diversity. Technology has DEFINITELY changed the world. I typed this on my phone and I can post this without any problems occuring. The technology has advanced to mamy things from touch screen phones to hoverboards. Sooner or later the technology will be so advanced it will scare you.
The world has changed by cultural diversity as well. Back in the 1960s you would NEVER see blacks, whites, latinos, or other races or religions all in one class but now you do. People are still racist but not as much and if they are they are not targeting it towards education which is good.

The Age of Exploration has changed the world. The Age of Exploration has changed the world with it clashing of cultures, or diversity. The world wouldn't be as diverse as it is today without the Age of Exploration. Language is an example of how the Age of Exploration has had an affect on the modern day world. Other examples of how it has had an affect on the modern day world is religion and food. A lot of the crops from then we still eat today.

Unknown said...

The Age of Exploration changed a lot of things in the world. Without it, the world wouldn't be the same as it was now. Christopher Columbus found more parts of Asia when he thought that he discovered America. Those parts of Asia wouldn't be found if he hadn't gone out of Spain to discover America. Another reason how the age of exploration changed the world was the clash of cultures. The European's Christianity symbolized the 3 G's in the clothes that they wore and the weapons that they used. The Native Americans though had a different culture since they worshipped different gods and wore animal skinned clothing. The Europeans thought that what the Native Americans wore showed them being nude but they still married them making their children mestizos. If their cultures hadn't clashed together, some cultures today wouldn't have existed.

Unknown said...

I feel like the Age of Exploration is what made our world swallowed in greed and evil. If the Age of Exploration didn't happen we would've never had massive amounts of bloodshed over land. Also the Europeans were very wrong to do what they did. Even though they call themselves "gathered with the Lord" they still killed off a portion of the Native Americans to get the lands of America. I also think this caused the slave trade as well. Slaves going from Europe to America and vise-versa. It was disgusting. In the end, the Age of Exploration made this world nasty.

Unknown said...

The Age of Exploration changed complete points of view for the world. Christopher Columbus challeged what people thought about the world. People thought that the earth was flat, but he led to the discovering that it was round. If it weren't for the explorers, we might not be here in America doing this assignment right now. The natives at the time weren't immune to diseases. About 90% of the native population died from dieseases, but we are immune to those diseases.

Unknown said...

I believe the age of exploration allowed acceptance and knowledge to evolve. Because of the Age of Exploration Races blended expanding the knowledge of the people/races that walk this earth. Even though the Age of exploration caused racism in the end it cause the diversity we see today. Knowledge of all the types of cultures out there made people more open to adopt different cultural ideas forming the diversity we see in America today

The Age of Exploration was a period characterized as a time when Europeans began exploring the world by sea in search of trading partners, new goods, and new trade routes. The reasoning for this exploring was usually due to lack of supplies and crew to complete the journey successfully. This is where interaction between the Europeans and Natives began, by trading different goods. Unfortuanately, that started to cause conflict. The Europeans were getting greedy with their lands, and thought they were better then the Natives. Their defference in culture I believe had a lot to do with it. Their mannerisms and clothes they wore was much different from the Europeans. A lot of these types of things are still are still reoccoring in society today.

The Age of Exploration impacted the world in many ways. Without the Age of Exploration today we wouldn’t have had different cultures or any diversity in people. Because of the Age of Exploration our world is what it is today with diversity in people, different cultures, exotic foods from different places and advanced weaponry. One example of different types of ethnicity was a mestizo which were children who had one Native American parent and one European parent. As well as different cultures and foods there was also some bad stuff that happened because of the Age of Exploration. When explorers from Europe or Spain came over to the Americas they brought some diseases with them, such as small pox. Slavery also existed during this time period. Most Europeans belived in slavery, but some Europeans knew that it was just wrong. Some good things happened during the Age of Exploration and some bad things happened, but if something didn’t happen that way our world might not be the same as it is now today.

The Age of Exploration changed the world completely. For one, the majority of us would not be living in America right now. After Columbus made the discovery of America, the entire world has, in a way, become more diverse. Natives and Europeans were able to share ideas and goods. The Natives introduced crops such as potatoes, corn, and vanilla to the Europeans while the Europeans introduced wild stock like cattle and sheep, and crops such as sugar cane and bananas. The age of exploration also helped with the diversity of people in our world today. Lastly, even though the diseases that Europeans brought over wiped out almost all of the Native population, the ones who did survive and repopulate had stronger immune systems. This means that people today would not have as good immune systems if this did not happen.

The age of exploration changed a lot of things by transportation and trading and weapons. Ownership of land increased a lot. Different diseases spread and other people brought over different things like pigs, cows, horses. They also brought over slaves and tomatoes and potatoes and corn. Different languages and cultures changed because of the time they were in.

The Age of Exploration changed the World in a lot of ways. The main change that I am going to focus on is the new cultures and races brought about. Along with the Colombian Exchange came people and their spreading to the new world. If these people were not brought to the new world people would not have mated with people of other races and we would not have all of the races we do today. I think this is had really huge impact on our world. These people brought so much along with them such as their religions, cultures, food, animals, etc. This brought about a whole new world and was the base of what our world has come to today.

Unknown said...

The Age of Exploration changed the World with diseases. Diseases were apart of the Colombian Exchange. Though diseases were not spread purposely -in this case- it greatly affected the 'Americas'. Diseases such as small pox, measles, etc, were passed on and killed so much as 90% of the population. A mix of diseases is what is believeed to have killed a great amount of poeple.

The Age of Exploration changed the world in many ways. This changed by the clash of cultures. Along with the clash of culture came clash of religion. The Europeans brought new farming methods and new ways of living. This is how we can get and use the crops produced now days. The Europeans also brought livestock and cattle which is how we get all of our meat today. In conclusion, these are some examples of how the Age of Exploration changed the world.

The Age of exploration changed the world in many ways. The main way I think it changed the world is due to the mix of cultures and racial problems. There was a lot of violence and weapons that were used during the age of exploration. The age of exploration was between the years 1400-1600's. The trading and population growth was also a part of the change in the world today. Diseases spread all throughout European country and the Spanish. The main diseases were small pox and syphilis. They had contemparary foods that are ate in the new world. The population changed when Europeans arrived on native land. These are the many things that went on during the Age of exploration that shaped the modern world.

The Age of Exploration changed the world greatly. People started realizing that there's no reward if you don't venture out and try something new. When the Spanish came to the Americas, they had made a better world. People would eventually build an immunity to diseases, different foods were being combined to make better meals, and different races began living together to make diversity possible. Immunity would eventually be achieved because of adaptations. Our bodies got used to the diseases to fight the viruses or bacteria off and we became stronger. Different foods were combined to make fuller meals and feed more people. Having livestock such as a single cow provided a lot more meat for the people rather than just a single turkey. Diversity was achieved when the Spanish first came over to the Americas. They began living in the same areas as the natives and now we have that all over the world except with more races in the areas that we live in today.

I think many things come from the Age of Exploration. The obvious things are the exchanging of different foods and live stock, but in my opinion a better way to say this is that a global community forms. Trade and communication is now on a worldwide scale and people are literally all over the world at this point. Another thing that forms is the idea of racism. The Europeans put themselves higher then the Natives and consider them as others. Later on the transatlantic slave trade occurs and people are treated foully and inhuman simply because of the color of their skin or where they derive from (racism). Overall good and bad come from this time, but with this Age of Exploration, things would not be the way they were today. Even though these horrific things had to occur, it seems that the others above and myself agree that it was well worth it in the long run.

The Age of Exploration changed the world. As cultures clash we're gonna see race and racism. Race and racism is tied into slavery. Europeans were over Others everyone that wasn't European was not important. There was many changes in the 1400-1600 era and it affected modern day greatly. As an example culture mixing is how a lot of "us" as a nation are classified. We aren't "pure breed" people because our ancestors mixed with other races. Slavery played a main part in that because the africans and some spanish people and Irish and anything that wasn't European was brought here to work. And they also reproduced causing the growth of population.

The age of exploration changed the world completely. Old and new (worlds) exchanged many goods amongst each other making each other prosper. This also played a big factor in the now diverse world that we live in today. We are lucky that Columbus, Cortes and Ferdinand discovered all new land that got people to inabit it. If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't be living here today. The diseases that these explorers brought was also good for the people of today because our immune systems wouldn't have been s good as they are now. Finally, the Age of exploration changed the world by establishing culture mix and land. Our schools are all filled with whites, blacks, and Asians. This comfortability wouldn't have even been tried if it weren't for the Age of Exploration.
