a) The text said that wilson virtually hypnotized the nation with his lofty ideals trying to keep peace. He said that America didn't fight for the sake of riches. He had some ships armed in case a German submarine tried to attack but he wanted to remain peaceful. That didn't last long so he declared war because four ships were sunk. the Germans were testing him and that made him not want to remain neutral. those were the results.

The fundamental reasons America failed to join the league of nations because America felt betrayed. The country felt betrayed because orginally America made an agreement with Germany and they betrayed it by bombing more ships. So rather than join the enemy they fought back.

B) I feel it was because America had always stayed out of European wars in the past and not many Americans wanted to get into this war in the first place. If the dissent was allowed, many people would have agreed with what those people were saying and not supported the war effort. A democratic government needs the support of its people because it is a government for the people, and America needed its people to support the war at this time. Because of this the espionage and sedition acts were passed to limit the amount of dissent that was going around, and that was successful, America was on the winning side of the war.

The treaty of versailles and the league of nations was the best that idea because at time when there was the first world war Wilson proposed a common sense approach in which problems would be solved diplomaticly. Due tot he fact that nations were showing hostility towards each other this seemed the best idea.

A)
Wilsons 14 points called for the preservation of peace. The first five points were about international relations while the next eight addressed territorial claims. His scheme behind the 14 points was to guarantee the political and territorial integrity of all countries big and small. It was an Attempt to spread American democracy and protect countries from monarchy and tyranny. By keeping the peace among nations, it would provide for the stable environment for America's economy to continue to flourish and grow.

c.) The final result of the Treaty of Versailles has been called the "unhappy compromise" due to the conflicting ideas of the parties involved, but i believe it was the best that could have been achieved at the time under those circumstances.

I believe the Treaty of Versailles was the best that could have been achieved under the circumstances as Germany along with the rest of the axis created such tragedy and destitute to other nations. So with the treaty of Versailles we see the limitations now put on Germany to restrict its power and restore power and use the treaty as the Axis' retribution to other nations. With the distribution of land and other goods.

The ideological results of Wilson's proclamation of WWI as a war to end war and a war to make the world safe for democracy was it brought an enthusiasm to the American people, he made them want to fight this war. His speech brought out an American nationalism for many Americans.

D. The fundamental reason why America failed to join the League of Nations was because America wanted to keep a policy of isolationalism throughout the world. They also didn't want to be in future conflicts with the Europeans. It also required economic or military force.

In the Spirit Book: Eight II on page 259 is a list of Wilson’s 14 points and Roosevelt’s Complaints. This is a really good source that compares their ideals about American Foreign policy.

American failed to join the league of nations because Americans did not agree with it and were in favor of republican senator Harding who was Anti-League. After Wilson died and Harding was elected, republican isolationists used Harding's victory to erase joining the league of nations from America's mind.

The results of ideological results from Wilson's proclamation of World War I brought on a form of American nationalism. Wilson leadership lead Americans to believe that America was fighting for all the right reasons, to gain democracy and shape international but most importantly try to end any dictatorship especially the ones that mistreat their people. However this nationalist attitude brought upon negative attitudes, especially the German. Americans became extremely anti-German.

In President Wilson's proclamation, he declared a world war to "end all wars". He appeals to the public by encouraging them that a world war can prevent any future dictators and militarists from establishing their roots. As a result, his idealism became effective and radical in the public's mind because he was able to persuade society into striving for a war and believing that it will benefit and protect democracy.

a) Wilson's war message convinced "the American people from their historic hostility to involvement in European squables" (Bailey,698). He believed that with the advanced industrial states America was capable in fighting the war. He did believe it was "a war to make the forth safe for democracy" because "democracy could flourish without fear of power-crazed autocrats and militarists" (Bailey, 698). His appeal led to factories making war supplies and from this grew the slogan "Labor Will Win the War"

America failed to join the League because they had this feeling of, like Khadijah said, betrayal. After the agreement was made, German troops began to rearm illegally. Another reason was they just didn't want to be involved with more European affairs, for economic reasons.

a)Wilson was able to encourage people into participating in the war. He swayed the people into thinking that joining the war was to save democracy increasing nationalism. Wilson forced ideas of being able to "flourish without fear of power-crazed autocrats and miltarists."(698) he was able to fire up the "public mind to a fever pitch" with his motivation to "end all wars."
