America interprets Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor as an attack. Would the United States have entered World War II even if the Japanese had not attacked Pearl Harbor?

I think that with out the help of Pearl Harbor, the U.S. wouldn't have entered the war. At the time, America was focused on being an isolationist nation. Foriegn involvement was limited, but the attack provoked them to move into the war. Plus, we were not prepared for war. We had small numbers in military and economically we weren't ready due the depresssion. Overall the attack provided purpose for the U.S. to fightin ww2.

If Japan never attacked Pearl Harbor, the U.S still would have been forced into war because Hitler had gained more power after France surrendered and would soon take over all of Europe since Britain was the only power left against Germany. If Germany took over all of Europe, it would eventually try to take over the Americas, and President Truman would be forced to go to war before surrendering to Germany.

It all started years before Pearl Harbor was bombed. In 1939 the Lend-Lease Act was passed allowing the stating Roosevelt could direct aid to whomever he wanted. This meant that the US was no longer neutral. Thus by FDR participating funding money for the war and providing Britain with arms, he already had his foot prying open the doors of war. With all that in mind the most direct reason for the United States entry was Pearl Harbor. However, there was early indication about our participation in the war via international relations.

Even if the Japanese didn't attack Pearl Harbor, I believe that the United States would have still entered World II. America began to break their isolation towards the nations at war. Also in agreement with Essence, Hitler was gaining too much power. America prides itself in helping people "fight for democracy and freedom. Even with these "neutrality" laws I believe that the United States couldn't just sit there and watch while Germany, Italy, and Japan attempt to take over.

Even if Japan hadn't attacked Pearl Harbor the war was going to happen sooner or later. I agree with Dani, essentially the US was already involved before the Pearl Harbor attack. Also the axis powers, Germany and Italy, were gaining to much power in Europe and then Japan decided that they were going to join with the axis powers, this was not settling well with the U.S.

Even if Pearl Harbor was not attacked, America would have entered world war II. I say this because America is like a child who wants to be apart of everything. Even if it doesn't concern them directly they still want to be apart of it. Even though they stayed out of a war during Wilson's term, that was one war of how many?. Plus America was allied with certain countries and if they said we need soldiers america would have no choice but to help them out.

America had been practicing isolationism for years now eventhough they were slightly involved but i agree with Kaci saying that America wouldnt have declared war on anybody unless they were attacked first. So say Japan didnt attack Pearl Harbor and Germany took Britain, America would not join until it was absolutely necessary because america was not prepared for war and many believed in "America for its self"

I do believe that the United States would have entered WWII Even if the Japaneses had not attacked pearl harbor because of the events that happened during WWI. During WWI the U.S foreign policy began to change. Not only this but as Essence said Hitlers plans and rapid gain of power would have forced the U.S into the war.

Even if the Japanese had not attacked Pearl Harbor, the United States would have eventually enter World War II. The United States and Roosevelt particularly were great allies of the British, we were supplying war material and supplies. Americans would have loved to remain isolated, but it just wasn't possible.

The united states would have still entered the war even if the attack on pearl harbor didn't happen. Just as many other who posted have said Germany was gaining powers and would have eventually attacked America. Or something else would have happened to pressure America into the war. After world war 1 America would never be able to remain neutral just as stated in Bailey in his previous chapter. Plus America isn't stupid they had plans to be prepared if something like this ever happened. Just as dani stated the lend lease act gave America the ability to aid who ever they wanted. Which of course would have push them to one side or the other.

America in the beginning of WWII was all for neutrality and isolationism. However, like Essence said Germany was gaining more power.Britain and France were the two major European countries fighting against Hitler and when France was attacked that only led to America taking steps towards involvement in WWII. America began to help Britain with the Destroyer Deal. Another reason why the U.S. got involved was because Germany was attacking and sinking U.S. ships. This led to Congress to end the Neutrality Act of 1939. America was slowly entering the war even before the bombing at Pearl Harbor.

If the Japanese had not attacked Pearl Harbor, I think the United States would still enter WWII. After Japan bombed and sank the American gunboat the Panay with 30 Americans wounded, America was driven to the act of isolationism. Although the Japanese apologized, Americans were being abusive and jailed in China by the Japanese; it was their way of overcoming their anti-American frustrations. Still, America had no intention of entering such an extreme war; however, they were slowing becoming apart of the war without even noticing it. As they provided supplies for Britain, they were basically siding with them which anger the Japanese.

I think that even without Japans attack on Pearl Harbor that the US would have entered the war. The US's entry in the war was inevitable, like Dani said, because the US had already provided assistance on numerous occasions. Roosevelt's involvement started with the aiding of Europe, then Britain along with the Soviet Union. Roosevelts Lend-Lease Bill was the US's "unofficial" vow to aid countries who needed it. Not to mention the Election of 1940, US citizens expected a war and intended for Roosevelt to protect them. In addition to the US's helping hand, Hitler's belligerency would have provoked America even if Japan did not attack Pearl Harbor.

The US would have entered the was nonetheless. As the US rises during wilson's and Rosevelts presidency it become for involved and powerful in foreigh affairs. Also as a way of asserting its power by providing Britain aid the US is inderectly entering the war. Therfore its was only a matter of time befor their presence was solidly recognised.
