A slave is a domestic servant according to Hugh Thomas texts. They get sold and worked for the people that owns them. In the Ancient World what separated slaves from non-slaves is by the positions that they have in the society. If you are rich or you have a high position in society you can be the owner.

In this article there were numerous reponses on the outlook of the term what is a slave. For instance, they were builders. They built the world's first agricultural revolution: The hydraulic system of China and the pyramids of egypt. In both Greece and Rome, slaves worked as domestic servants. They served their master and his/her family. They worked in public places but mostly on farms, as well as in commerce and in cottage industries. Also, in a Rome they described a slave as an object. In the Acient World the difference between slaves and non slaves were their social structure. The rich were mostly masters and had a higher postion

Based on on the text "slave trade" slaves are someone who is force to do labor. to separate the slave and non-slave is base on your social status. If you are in the upper class with money you can buy a slave and become an owner and slave are the low class who are forced to work for their owner

In the ancient world slaves were considered to be property, something to be bought sold, and traded, an asset gained through conquest. In ancient Rome slaves slaved seemed to be an idealistic and and logical solution for completing a task or satisfying a need or desire.Slaves were used for anything and everything. Their mindset was "why pay someone to do something when they can do it for free". In ancient Rome two thirds of the population were slaves. A slave was a common household possession. In fact the article suggest that the more slaves you owned the more more favorably you were looked upon in society.Your social and economical standing decided whether or not you were deemed a slave. The higher up you were this social ladder the more slaves you owned the lower you were insisted that you were a slave yourself.
